Age 60 - Tucson, Arizona
UPDATE: "This is the first time since high school that I have ever WON anything for any exercise. But today I won my age group in the 5K! ...I finished in less than 35 minutes on this rather hilly course, the first half directly into the sun. I was the 132nd finisher among about 350 people... I found out I would have been second in the group YOUNGER than me, so I felt this was pretty good for my first outing..." -Bonnie L. She's even recruited a friend in his 20's to be her pace-runner! You're right Bonnie, age is so relative! |

AGE IS NEVER AN
EXCUSE
Bonnie, a 59-year-old woman from Tucson, Arizona, came into this competition wanting "very very much" to get back into shape and lose weight. By the end of the competition she became a 60-year-old woman that impressed me every time I saw her workout progress! Age truly is only a number; determination is what matters most. Bonnie you're an inspiration to all! "I’m now lifting twice as much weight (and in some exercises 3 times as much) than when the challenge began. My body is firming up, I feel strong to the core, and my clothes, particularly my pants are all loose-fitting — almost too loose! I’ve dropped nearly 4 inches in my waist and 3 inches in my hip measurement. When the challenge began at the end of June, I could not run a mile without frequent walk breaks. Today I can comfortably run a 10-minute mile and maintain that pace for several miles. I met and surpassed two of my specific goals of running 5 miles and 6 miles by my 60th birthday in September. I have totaled the miles ran through the course of this challenge… so far 320 miles (and I have 3 more days to go). WOW, I have even impressed myself. The number one accomplishment of this Dynamic Plateau Training challenge has been self-satisfaction and discovery that my body is indeed capable of what my mind thinks it should do. I am no longer limited by my age, size, gender, etc. And I believe that I’m back on a very healthy course for life. Future plans include a 5K event run for time on November 1, and I’m searching for a really inviting 10K or half marathon after the first of the year to keep up the momentum (maybe in some exotic location). I have renewed my regular gym workouts and plan to continue with the same vigor and imagination — that’s another benefit of the DPT plan — it taught me to be creative with my workouts and to strive for progression rather than repetition. Thanks, Ben, I finally get it!" -Bonnie L. |
